Intravenous contrast agents used in CT studies carry a risk of adverse drug reactions as with any other drug. Of particular note is the risk of contrast induced nephropathy, with a potentially greater risk of significant harm to those animals with pre-existing renal disease. A pre anaesthetic blood test will be performed and intravenous fluid therapy administered during and for two hours post contrast administration in each patient receiving contrast. We are happy to discuss this further at the time of referral if required and this will be discussed with the client at admit.
