Our long-established vet practice serving Somerset and Wiltshire has earned a prestigious national environmental award recognising its drive to cut waste and increase sustainability.
We are proud to have been accredited as a Green practice – the highest level possible – by Investors in the Environment (iiE).
iiE is a nationwide accreditation scheme which encourages businesses to transform their working practices to introduce more environmentally friendly and sustainable methods and systems.
Garston, which has practices in Frome, Melksham, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury, was recognised for prioritising sustainability, its waste management system, reducing its carbon footprint and the dedication of its Green Champion and the rest of the ‘Garston Go Green’ environmental team.
Our vet, Sian Naylor said: “We’re thrilled to have received prestigious recognition for our commitment to creating an environmentally friendly workplace.
“It’s a terrific achievement to have received the Green award and shows the commitment of the team to increasing our sustainability and cutting down hard on waste.
“This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our ‘Garston Go Green’ environmental group. We’re all so pleased – it’s an incredible start to 2025.
“We might have the highest accolade possible, but we will continue to look for ways to further improve our sustainability strategy and widen its impact for the benefit of the practice, our clients and the local community.”
Along with highlighting the work done, the iiE also recognised the improvements had come at a time when the practice was taken over by Linnaeus and undergoing ‘substantial changes’.
The report reads: “Given the transitional period Garston Vets experienced from 2023 to 2024, the practice was aiming to re-accredit at silver level, after having achieved silver level accreditation in 2023 as an independent practice.
“However, despite having to adjust to substantial changes, the practice has not only maintained a strong Environmental Management System, but has expanded and developed this in multiple areas.
“Sustainability has become further embedded within the practice through continued strong communications with the wider staff base and with new incentives introduced to support sustainable transport options. Therefore, the practice has been awarded Green Level Accreditation this year.
“The passion, determination, and commitment of the Green Champion must be highlighted, as should the vital support and work of the wider Green Team. It is clear that the enthusiasm of these individuals has been integral to the practice’s success in this area.”
