At Garston Veterinary Group we are always delighted to meet new additions to the family. We understand that getting a puppy can be a whole new experience, so we try to make your visits to the vets as helpful as possible.
Our puppy vaccination course starts with a first vaccination from 8 weeks of age, with the second vaccination 2 weeks later. Puppies are ready to explore the great outdoors 7 days after their 2nd vaccination.
What to expect on your first visit
You will have a 20 minutes consultation with the nurse usually before seeing the vet.
Our nurses are fully trained with some being Pet Health Counsellors in addition to their other qualifications. They will weigh your puppy, discuss fleas, worms, insurance, micro chipping, diet, behaviour, neutering. . .Anything you like really!
You will receive a Puppy Pack. This is a really useful pack to have for any new puppy owner, we have spent time keeping it up to date with the most useful product information leaflets for you. We have also included fact sheets about behaviour and training, a fun socialisation chart for all the family to get involved with plus a complimentary voucher for your puppy to try Royal Canin’s puppy diet.
10 minute consultation with the vet. The vet will give your puppy a full top to tail health check up, once the vet is pleased that your puppy is in good health they will receive their first vaccination.
4 weeks free pet insurance. Petplan offer a ‘no strings’ 4 weeks free pet insurance cover note, the vet will be happy to give this to you if you choose to accept it.
What to expect on your second visit
You will need to book a second vaccination for your puppy 2 weeks after the first. This will be a 10 Minute Consultation with the nurse. Your puppy will be re weighed and checked before our qualified veterinary nurse administers their second vaccination. Our nurses will also be available to answer any new questions that you may have for them.
Don’t forget . . .
We invite all our puppies to our Garston Puppy Parties. These are run monthly at each of our surgeries by Senior Qualified nurses and our Behaviourists. Puppy party is a great opportunity for your puppies to come into the surgery in a friendly environment and socialise with others of a similar age. It’s also a lovely opportunity for owners to come and learn a little bit about separation anxiety in puppies, toilet training and anything else that you want to know!
Puppy Party is available to all puppies 48 hours after their first vaccination and up to 7 days after their second vaccination. Please speak to a receptionist to find out more and reserve a place for your puppy!
